‘Sensitive, pro-people administration needed’

Ignorance about our rich history among youngsters is really worrisome, says Nitin Gadkari

“It is very sad that the new generation do not know about our rich history or the great events which shaped the destiny of this nation. It is very important to teach them about the historical events otherwise they will not be able to take inspiration from such momentous events,” said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road, Transport, and Shipping during a book release function on Sunday evening.
Gadkari and former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde jointly released a book ‘Vatchal’ penned by former Governor of Arunachal, former Chief Secretary Ram Pradhan at Shrimant Baburao Dhanwate Hall. The function was organised by Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan. Former Minister Datta Meghe, Noted writer Dr V S Jog, Girish Gandhi were present on the dais.

About the recent unpleasant episode over replacing name of great freedom fighter R K Patil given to road, Gadkari informed the audience that nobody in the NMC including the corporator who moved the resolution were unaware about late Patil and his contribution to freedom struggle and his standing in the society. “When I came to know about this proposal, I blasted all the office bearers of the civic body,” Gadkari stated.

Appreciating Ram Pradhan for his splendid administrative as well as political career, Gadkari said, administration should be sensitive, public oriented and help political representatives for the balanced development in the country. He remembered the old days of Legislative Council and said that as member of the council Ram Pradhan had given maximum time in listening speeches delivered in the council. He said, Ram Pradhan was very close to former Chief Minister Yashwant Rao Chavan and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Sushil Kumar Shinde, former Chief Minister also remembered his golden days with Ram Pradhan during government. He disclosed that on the recommendations of Ram Pradhan, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had appointed Vilasrao Deshmukh as Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He said that Ram Pradhan had mentioned the political events of toppling of former Chief Minister Vasantdada Patil government. He appreciated Pradhan for his ability and sincerity.

Dr. V S Jog highlighted the events mentioned in the book by Ram Pradhan. He said that Pradhan closely witnessed several political happenings in Maharashtra and in the country. He had mentioned these events very bravely and honestly.

Ram Pradhan, author of the book said that he had tried to present important political as well as administrative events in the book. The events from his childhood till his stint as Governor of Arunachal have been mentioned in the book. Rekha Ghiya-Dandige compered the programme while Ganesh Chauhan proposed vote of thanks. Former MP Gev Awari, Baburao Tidke and others were present in the function.
