Special Correspondent,

The condition of 9-year-old ‘Jaai’ tigress in Maharajbag zoo is reported to be critical as the serum creatinine level to know kidney status has gone as high to 36 against required 2. It is varying daily. The blood level is also critical as blood tests showed presence of toxins that are not filtered due to kidney problem. The authorities are supplying 4 to 5 litres of saline daily in the treatment cage with a PG student holding her tail till a saline bottle gets empty.
Dr Sunil Bawaskar, In-charge Officer, Maharajbag Zoo, who is treating ‘Jaai’ said on Monday that the tigress is not consuming meat.

However, it is moving and not just lying down. There is a slight improvement as the kidney level has come down to 26 today. “We are making best efforts to save her and are hopeful, though the condition is critical”, he added.
A team of doctors from Nagpur Veterinary College is regularly checking the tigress and extend guidance.
Now, the zoo accommodates ‘Jaai’ and ‘Jaan’ tigresses and the authorities shifted Sahebrao and ‘Lee’ to Gorewada Rescue Centre and ‘Cherry’ tigress to Kanan Pendhari Zoo at Bilaspur.
