RAIPUR,

State Government has started a massive free vaccination drive for cattle to prevent them from Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) from November 16 across the state. Animal Husbandry Minister Brijmohan Agrawal has written a letter to President of District Panchayat to ensure their active cooperation during the drive. Additional Chief Secretary of Agriculture Department, Commissioner Agriculture produce Ajay Singh has also written letter to the District Collectors and CEO’s of District Panchayats for their active participation to make the drive grand success.

In his letter Minister Agrawal stated that, cattle are utilized both for agriculture and dairy farming. The production of milk in cattle reduces after being infected from FMD. It also reduces the work efficiency of these animals working in field, while calves infected from the disease generally die. This result in financial loss to the farmers, the minister stated. As such under the FMD free nation wide drive, Chhattisgarh is the first state selected for this initiative. Thus, Animal Husbandry Welfare Department will start an extensive FMD vaccination drive from November 16. This 21-day drive will continue till December 6. The department has made elaborate preparations for free vaccination of around one crore cattle in the state.
