Commotion at RDU after ABVP, NSUI confront each other

COMMOTION was reported at Rani Durgawati University (RDU) on Thursday afternoon when arch rival students’ groups ABVP and NSUI confronted each other. ABVP members who reached the University to submit a memorandum of demand to remove tainted EC member of the university were challenged by NSUI and students of Devendra Hostel. Cops from Civil Lines resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse angry mob of students from both the groups. In the commotion, two students sustained injuries due to stabbing among rival groups. Two students of ABVP were victim of stabbing, while one NSUI student also sustained injuries in retaliation.

According to information, commotion was reported at RDU campus on Thursday when ABVP members reached the university to submit a memorandum of demand to university administration to remove a tainted Executive Council member from the University Executive Council. It is informed that on Thursday afternoon ABVP members reached the university to submit a memorandum of demand to VC RDU with a demand to remove tainted EC member.

Soon after ABVP members stepped into the university campus they were challenged by NSUI members who indulged in verbal spat that however took a ugly shape after students raising slogans exchanged blows. In between students from Devendra hostel in possession with hockey sticks and other weapons stepped in and made the situation worse. In the confrontation, three students from both the groups became victim of stabbing and sustained serious injuries. ABVP students were attacked from behind while they were about to submit a memorandum to university officials. With breach in law and order situation in the university campus cops from Civil Lines reached the spot to handle the situation and were forced to resort to mild lathicharge in which students again sustained injuries. Shubhang Gontia, Mahanagar Secretary of ABVP, said that on Thursday ABVP members reached the university with a demand to remove tainted EC member Dinesh Singh who happens to be in association with NSUI. Singh anticipating arrival of NSUI called students to confront with ABVP members who were attacked from behind with deadly weapons. Group of anti-socials along with hostel students of Devendra Hostel created sensation by sudden attack on ABVP members. We have demanded arrest of NSUI President and Anuj Pratap Singh illegally residing in Devendra hostel. In counter claims, NSUI Vijay Rajak District President claimed that chaos was an outcome of defeat faced by ABVP in students’ union elections. NSUI members were attacked in a planned manner by ABVP activists.

CSP Omti Azim Khan, when contacted, said in view of deadlock reported in the university campus, cops resorted to mild lathicharge. The situation worsened after hostel students from Devendra Hostel stepped in. Timely intervention helped to diffuse tension in the university campus. We have registered counter cases in view of statements recorded from both the groups. A search to apprehend absconding miscreants has been started.
