Crime Branch sleuths along with the arrested accused to reach city by Thursday evening

In a major breakthrough, Crime Branch sleuths on Wednesday nabbed one of the prime accused in the abduction-cum-murder of lottery trader Rahul Agrekar. On the run, Pankaj Harode (36), a resident of Itwari, was picked-up from Kolkata, confirmed a police officer.

Harode was hiding in a lodge in Kolkata. The main accused Durgesh Bokde, also a petty lottery trader, is still at large.
Harode’s arrest came nearly a week after the incident surfaced and led to a lot of criticism of city police as the accused seemed to have outwitted them.
It is learnt that the Crime Branch team, with the arrested accused, has left for Nagpur. The team is likely to reach city by Thursday evening.

When asked about location of another accused Durgesh Bokde (32), the officer said, “He is still at large but is going to be apprehended soon. Another team is on pursuit of Bokde and it is a matter of time before he too is caught.”
Harode and Bokde had abducted and murdered Rahul Suresh Agrekar last week. Rahul used to look after the family business.
The accused fled the city after committing the crime. They were hiding in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal where Harode’s run finally ended.

However, the reason behind Harode’s stay at Kolkata and any local help has not been ascertained so far.
Lottery trader Agrekars live in three-storey house which includes parking area at the ground floor at Darodkar Square. The family is in lottery business for many years. On morning of November 21, Rahul left for some work and told the family members that he would be back within an hour. When he walking out of the premises, the security guard asked him why he was not taking his vehicle. To this, Rahul reportedly told that he wishes to walk instead. After walking some distance, Rahul reportedly boarded a Bolero jeep waiting for him at Darodkar Square.

After an hour, Rahul called the family members and stated that he would return after an hour-and-a-half. Thereafter in afternoon, Jayesh, his elder brother, received a call from Rahul’s cellphone at 2.08 pm. The caller introduced himself as abductor of Rahul and demanded Rs one crore as ransom. Panicked, Jayesh reported the matter to his father. The family members approached Lakadganj Police Station. They urged the cops to rescue their son from the abductors. It was already 5 pm the same day.

At around 7 pm, Jayesh received another call from the abductor. The caller told him to reach Jagdamba Temple at Koradi with the ransom money at 11 pm and get back Rahul. But thereafter abductors did not called again.
Meanwhile, the day when Rahul was abducted, a semi-charred body was noticed by Butibori police. The next day, the body was identified as that of Rahul based on the items recovered from the spot.

Will Pankaj Harode reveal names of other accused?
Pankaj Harode’s arrest is a major breakthrough in the case as he could reveal names of other accused who might be involved in abduction and murder of Rahul Agrekar. The family members had alleged involvement of minimum six persons in the crime.
However, police investigation still revolves around Bokde and Harode, both prime accused in the case.
The police will know the motive behind the crime after interrogation of Harode.
