Quite a sensation prevailed in the district as an adult tigress and a wild boar were found dead in the forest between Jamnagar and Maroda in Chamorshi taluka falling under Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary in Allapalli Forest Division, on Friday morning. Electrocution could be the probable reason of the death of the animals, said M K Motghare, Divisional Forest Officer,(Wildlife), Allapalli adding that the post mortem is being performed after which cause of the deaths would be ascertained.

As soon as the news of the death of tigress spread the people in nearby areas rushed to the spot to see the animal. A radio collar has been tied around the neck of the tigress and a wild boar was also found lying beside it on the spot. This tigress had created quite havoc in Armori- Wadsa area for the past few months as it had killed two persons and scores of animals in that area. The beast was tranquilised and captured by the sharp shooters of the forest department a few days back following the growing complaint of the people.

Later, it was released in the Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary in August this year itself after keeping it in Gorewada Rescue Centre, Nagpur, for a few days. In November 2014 also, a tigress was foud dead due to electrocution on the banks of river Wainganga in Chamorshi taluka, it may be mentioned here.

Senior forest officers including W I Yatbon, Chief Conservator of Forest, and Tambe, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Allapalli Forest Division, rushed there and inspected the spot. A post mortem was performed by veterinary doctors on the spot of the accident itself and later the beast was cremated. The postmortem report is expected to be submitted in two three days, according to Motghare. He however, ruled out any possibility of poaching. Investigation in this regard is being conducted, he added.
