Police intensify vigilance ahead of winter in Bhilai

SHIVERING winter nights, now in the offing, have different significance for the police. It meant for them the precarious time to intensify patrolling and round the clock vigil keeping in view the increased possibility of armed dacoity, major thefts and housebreaking crimes, when common people are trying to keep warm by huddling around bonfire or trying to remain indoor in the warm comfort of their homes. The police authorities asserted that they have already launched special operations and drives for checking heinous offences, committed by criminal tribes specifically during cold winter nights.

During biting cold the police intensify patrolling and keep night vigil across the district to curb incidents of dacoity. It is observed that the most incidents of dacoities in the region usually reported during winter nights as dacoits can conduct their nefarious activities when maximum people prefer to remain indoors as soon as possible when most of the colonies and their roads get deserted. Besides, malls and markets are also closed much before their regular
schedules.

The police record also shows that in such weather, the inter-state gangs specifically from criminal tribes viz Pardhi, Bawaria, kanjad etc; slip to other states and set their target after rackying of the targeted areas during daytimes. The modus operandi of the gangs includes to strike at the bungalows by railway tracks, followed by a brutal murder to defecating at the scene of crime.

Shashi Mohan Singh, ASP (City) informed, the police have already sounded alert in outer colonies, convening meetings of residents while apprising them about the possibility of dacoity and appealing them to be vigilant and to inform police in case of any movement of suspects. He informed that besides, all police stations across the district and those of twin cities Bhilai and Durg were already directed to maintain round the clock vigil and to launch special drives to avert such heinous offences. And, senior officials are maintaining close supervision for effective implementation of police drives.

ASP (City), Singh further informed that the police were maintaining special vigil at all possible places viz bus stands, railway stations with special thrust at entry and exit points of the district. He also informed that the police were also keeping tap on gang movements, specifically those of criminal tribes. Inter-state intelligence network has also been spruced up along with close vigil at entry and exit points of the district for ensuring the effective monitoring on movements of criminal tribes, the ASP (City), Singh added. He also informed that the police stations were also directed for conducting intensive checking lodges and dhhabas in their respective police station limits to ward off the possibility of dacoity and burglaries.
