Assailant(s) slit throat of Moreshwar Wankhede when he was on way to railway station

Cops investigating the case on three angles including family disputes

A principal of a college in Chandrapur was found brutally murdered with his throat slit, near entrance gate of NEERI, on Wardha road under jurisdiction of Bajaj Nagar police station on Friday morning. Identified as Moreshwar Mahadevrao Wankhede (61), the deceased was hacked to death when he was on way to railway station to board Chandrapur-bound train on Friday morning, said police.

According to police, Wankhede, a resident of 48, HIG, Mhada Colony, Narendra Nagar, is Principal of Khatri College, Chandrapur. On Friday, he left the house at 4.15 am to board a train for Chandrapur. While passing-by NEERI gate on Wardha road, the unidentified assailant(s) stopped Wankhede and slit his throat with sharp-edged weapon. He died at the spot due to heavy blood loss. The murder came to fore after the security guard of NEERI noticed the body. He alerted police control room. Night patrolling team of Bajaj Nagar Police Station visited the spot and informed senior police officers. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone I Smartna Patil visited the spot. The cops noticed the body laying on the footpath near the gate with his throat slit by sharp-weapons. When police reached the spot, Wankhede had breathed his last. His Honda Dio moped was lying near him.
Police sent Wankhede’s body to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for autopsy. A case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against unidentified accused.

The investigators discovered three deep cuts on throat of Wankhede. After visiting the crime scene, a police officer informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the accused could have personal enmity with the deceased as the injuries are very deep and ascertain the rage of the murderer.Wankhede was living with his wife, a son and a daughter in two-storey house at Narendra Nagar. He brought the house three years ago after selling a house situated in Nandanvan.

A senior police officer informed that they are investigating the case on three angles -- personal enmity, robbery attempt and family disputes. The personal enmity angles will be investigated after scanning mobile phone records and interrogation of the friend circle of the deceased. The cops have checked active criminals in nearby area to trace robbery angle. The family dispute angle would be checked only after the funeral of the departed soul.  A police officer said that clue of robbery angle was not obtained so far. Cops are focusing on the angle of family disputes after learning about estranged relations between the couple.
