AN actor playing the role of a debt-ridden farmer committing suicide in Vidarbha himself died on a float during a procession organised by Shobhayatra Samiti of Bharatiya Janseva Mandal on the occasion of ‘Vaikuntha Chaturdashi’ on Friday.
The deceased, Manoj Arun Dhurve (27) was a resident of Nawargaon Toli.

In one of the tableaus, Dhurve was playing the role of a debt-ridden ryot committing suicide. Some other men were also with him on the float. A noose was tied around Dhurve’s neck when the procession reached Shastri Chowk from Atharah Bhuja Ganpati Mandir. When the ‘shobhayatra’ arrived at Gandhi Chowk, some persons noticed that Dhurve was unconscious. They informed the policemen in the ‘bandobast’ about him. Cops rushed Dhurve to Sub-District Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Soon, rumours spread in social media that Dhurve died of hanging. Ramtek Police sent the body for post-mortem.
The autopsy report categorically stated that the death was not due to hanging but because for some other reason. Police investigation revealed that Dhurve had allegedly consumed liquor. After registering an accidental death case, PSO (Ramtek) Yogesh Pardhi is investigating the case.
