Twelve gamblers caught red handed, cash at stake over Rs 1.3 lakh seized

CRIME BRANCH sleuths caught red handed twelve gamblers and confiscated cash at stake over Rs 1.3 lakh along with seizing sets of playing cards in Bhilai and Durg. The police cell handed over the accused to the police station concerned for further legal action in the matter.

In the ongoing special drive to curb evil practice of gambling in the police cell teams succeeded in laying hands of gamblers and recovered cash at stake along with the sets of playing cards after carrying out raids in Camp-II of Bhilai and Adarsh Nagar of Durg. In Chhaoni Police Station limits, the police cell team swung into action rounded up nine accused while seizing the cash at stake over Rs 1.2 lakhs in Tandi Mohalla, Camp-II, Bhilai. Similarly, after a tip off the police cell team reached the spot immediately and nabbed three while gambling in the area along with seizing cash at stake Rs 10,500 and a set of playing cards in New Adarsh Nagar area of Durg.

Police sources further informed that after having carried out raids at bother the places along with confiscating cash at stakes and sets of playing cards the police cell teams have also seized the mobile phones of all the accused gamblers in connection with the criminal act they were involved in.

The accused were identified as Nazir Ahmed, Niyaz Ahmed, Mohammed Izrile, Dalbir Sing, Chandra Kumar alias Chandu, Nandlal Sonkar, all residents of Camp-II, Bhilai; Kulvinder Singh, Ishwar Choudhary, both residents of Camp-1, Bhilai; Hukumchand, a resident of Awantibai Chowk, Supela, Bhilai; Sanjya Thakur, a resident of Kasarideeh, Durg; Yogendra Chouhan, a resident of Titurdeeh, Durg and Paras Chandrakar, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Durg. The police have registered the offence against the accused under section 13 of Gambling Act and are further investigating the matter.
