Earlier, President Ram Nath Kovind was given rousing welcome by Governor Balramji Das Tandon and Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh on his arrival at Swami Vivekanand Airport, Raipur on Sunday by a special Indian Air Force aircraft.
President Kovind is on a 2-day visit to Raipur. On Sunday, he attended the valedictory ceremony of the 5-day Rajyotsava-2017 celebrations. On November 6, President Kovind will be visiting Giraudpuri, the birthplace of the great social reformer Guru Ghasidas.

On his arrival, President Ram Nath Kovind was handed over the Key to the city of Raipur by Mayor Pramod Dubey at the airport. As per the protocol, whenever the President visits any city in the country, the key to that city, is handed over to him as a customary tradition, which means, till the President is in that city, traditionally it becomes his responsibility. While the President is the First Citizen of the country, the Mayor is considered first citizen of the city, hence the tradition is followed of handing over the Key. The tradition is being followed since when Bharat had handed over the responsibility of Ayodhya to Shri Ram on his arrival.

The tradition was even followed subsequently by Mouguls and the British. Now in post independence era, Mayors fulfill this tradition. Later the President was given Guard of Honour at the airport. Present on the occasion were Ministers Brijmohan Agrawal, Prem Prakash Pandey, Amar Agrawal, Punnulal Mohle, Ajay Chandrakar, Rajesh Munat, Kedar Kashyap, Mahesh Gagda, Dayaldas Baghel, Bhaiyalal Rajwade, Ramsheela Sahu apart from MPs Ramesh Bais, Chandulal Sahu, Ramvichar Netam, BJP State President Dharamlal Kaushik and large number of senior officials and party office-bearers.
