‘WIPO-India Summer School on IP’ begins

WIPO Academy, a specialised agency of the United Nations, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of IP Management, Nagpur (RGNIIPM) and Maharashtra National Law University Nagpur (MNLUN), have jointly organised the WIPO-India Summer School on Intellectual Property (IP), at Nagpur. The summer school was inaugurated by chief guest Anoop Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Nagpur Division on Monday and is scheduled from November 6 to November 17.


O P Gupta, Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Joseph M Bradley, Head, Academic Institutions Programme, WIPO Academy, Prof (Dr) Vijender Kumar, Vice Chancellor, MNLU and Dr K S Kardam, Jr Joint Controller of Patents and Designs were also present. About 48 participants from various countries including Bangladesh, Korea, India, South Africa, Dubai are participating in the programme.
Anoop Kumar emphasised on the protection of IP, especially the geographical indications, easy registration of IP and efficient enforcement.


O P Gupta talked about the objectives of National IPR Policy, 2016. Prof (Dr) Vijender Kumar, specifically emphasised on education and dissemination of IP knowledge and protection of traditional knowledge. Joseph M Bradley stated that this is not only a great opportunity to know about IP management but it is also a useful platform that allows participants to interact with people from all over world on IP issues.


Vote of thanks was proposed by Prof (Dr) Naresh Kumar Vats of MNLU. Pankaj Borkar, Assistant Controller of Patents and Designs and Head, RGNIIPM, Satpute, SDO, RGNIIPM, Dr K S Kadam, Senior Joint Controller of Patents and Designs, New Delhi, Sukhdeep Singh, Dr Manish Yadev, Dr Raghani Khubalkar are taking efforts for the success of the training programme.
