Accused Ramesh alias Raju Mehra was caught by SIT from Bhopal after cash reward of Rs 10,000 was declared on his head

The hunt of police for the fourth accused in horrifying Bhopal gangrape incident finally ended on Monday and the remaining accused Ramesh alias Raju, who was absconding from past six days, was arrested by the police.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that was formed to catch the remaining accused, on Monday evening, arrested Ramesh from Salaiya in Kolar locality where he had taken shelter at his relative’s home. Earlier on Monday morning, a cash reward of Rs 10,000 was declared on the arrest of absconding 35-year-old accused by the newly-appointed SP (Rail) and he was nabbed till the evening.

Addressing mediapersons, SP (Rail) Ruchi Vardhan Mishra said that the arrested accused is identified as Ramesh alias Raju alias Suresh (35), son of Gangaram, who basically hails from Amgaon in Narsinghpur district.
Here he was working as labourer at under-construction sites and didn’t have any permanent address. He used to live near the construction sites where he works, therefore, it was difficult for the police to catch him.

SP Mishra praised the efforts of SHO (GRP) Hemant Shrivastava, who is also among one of the members of SIT as well as investigation officer in the case, with the help of which the accused could be traced. She also lauded police informers’ system as based on their specific inputs, Ramesh was arrested. Now, after the victim had identified the arrested accused, on Tuesday, Ramesh would be now produced in the District Court where Habibganj GRP would seek his police remand to quiz him at length.

The key accused Golu alias Bihari (25) is already in the police custody of Habibganj GRP that will end on Tuesday. The remaining two accused, Amar alias Gultu (25) and Rajesh alias Chetram (50), involved in gangrape with Vidisha-based B.Sc student and civil services aspirant were already sent to judicial remand. The past crime records of all the accused are being verified. In the initial probe of police two serious offences, including murder case, was found against key accused Golu alias Bihari who was charged for killing her kid daughter by throwing her from running train.

Earlier, for the fourth accused six police teams were dispatched for Sehore, Hoshangabad, Itarsi, Narsinghpur and other areas to track him down. But surprisingly the absconding accused was found within the city from Salaiya area in Kolar on the same day when IPS officer Ruchi Vardhan Mishra took charge as new SP (Rail) and she had declared cash reward on absconding accused. She takes place of Anita Malviya, who was transferred after a video surfaced in which she was seen interacting with mediapersons over gangrape incident with 19-year-old girl in a comic manner.

The Habibganj GRP, which is facing flak for insensitivity and negligence, had erred badly by arresting an innocent person as the fourth accused.
Under pressure, the cops had hurriedly arrested a driver, Rajesh alias Raju Rajput, going by his name as the survivor had mentioned an accused named Rajesh. The goof-up came to light after his wife created a ruckus outside GRP thana.
