Lac production helps tribal women earn profit

Availing a scheme meant to establish Lac Production for livelihood development of Tribal farmers and forest village residents the Tribal women of village Masara of Development Block Barela are earning profits. The tribal women are doing farming of Lac on Palash (Chewla) trees.


In the National Agriculture Bank for Rural Development run scheme under the direction of Agriculture Scientist of Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University, Dr. Moni Thomas the tribal women farmers are growing Lac on 750 plants. the production of Lac in this village is being carried out under the banner of Lok Kalyan Bhumika Samiti.


Urmila Dhurve a participant in Samiti informed that after constitution of Samiti a training was carried out at Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University under the direction of Scientist, Dr. Moni Thomas on Lac cultivation. To get complete know how and dos and don't's the team from village have been taken to Seoni district for exposure trip on Lac Production. In this exposure trip about Lac production the women participants got information about problems and production issues.


After a long work and learning the group of women are successfully working on production of Lac. Another benefits is the rise in income of every single participants in this cycle.
NABARD District Development Manager, Sandeep Dharkar informed that in order to provide proper education and details right from production, storage and up to marketing is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the profits as well as work.


With this motive Dharkar said that regular updates are being given to the participants in the village involve in production of Lac. Lok Kalyan Bhumika Samiti, President, Rakha Kushwaha providing counselling, first exposure of Lac production to the Tribal women in different villages and also conducting training and said by encouraging tribal women towards and involving them in Lac Production helping them to attain self reliance as well as assisting in enhancing their family income. Samiti's Ganesh Marco providing information to the women farmers and participants in Lac production. He also monitor the production as well as creating awareness amongst farmer about banking linkage.
