Cong creates pandemonium over poor garbage collection

OPPOSITION members created pandemonium over irregularities and illegalities in door-to-door garbage collection arrangements during general house meeting of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation on Tuesday. Opposition Congress corporators said the Mayor had vowed for stringent action against the company by giving it sufficient time to set things right till October 2, but more that one month has passed but the ruling party has not taken any action against the company yet. They demanded the Chair to conduct meeting under Section 30 of the Municipal Corporation Act and allow discussion on door-to-door garbage collection arrangement. After prolonged debate and chaos, the Chairperson assured the Opposition members to hold discussion with the Mayor over the issue and thereafter fix a date for meeting. After Chairperson’s assurance, the Opposition members got ready for discussion on meeting agenda.

Following pandemonium no business could be transacted for more than one hour. Later, the Opposition members including Rajesh Sonkar, Vinay Saxena and MLA Tarun Bhanot grilled the ruling party on various issues like ongoing anti-encroachment drive, naming on main squares etc. They also raised the issue of irregularities in appointment of guest teachers in JMC schools. On that, the House took back the charge of Education Officer from Veena Varghese for 15 days and ordered thorough inquiry into the matter.

At the outset, the House paid tributes to senior Congress leader, renowned businessmen and former Mayor Vishwanath Dubey and mother of former Congress Corporator Mukesh Rathore. Later, the House was adjourned for 10 minutes.

As soon as the House assembled, the Opposition Congress corporators raised issue of irregularities in door-to-door garbage collection arrangement. Levelling serious allegations on ruling party members and senior officials concerned said JMC administration is providing undue advantage to the company.

Leader of Opposition Rajesh Sonkar, Vinay Saxena said the Mayor had granted enough time to the company to rectify shortcomings in arrangements and ensure proper cleaning in the city.

But, the company paid no heed to the Mayor’s warnings. They said the company is paying utter negligence in its work despite JMC paying huge money to the company. The Congress corporators crated chaos in the House and demanded the Chairperson to organise a special meeting under Section 30 of the Municipal Corporation Act for discussion on the issue. After intervention of Chairperson Sumitra Balmeek the irked corporators were ready to hold discussions on meeting agenda. Congress MLA Tarun Bhanot also attended the meeting.

Expressing great displeasure over ongoing anti-encroachment drive, he said on one hand where the State Government is making arrangements to provide ownership right to people who have been living in slums, Nazul or other land, except forest land while on the other JMC administration is removing houses, shops of poor people. He questioned how come JMC violates directions of the State Government. He reproached JMC officials and also the ruling party members for their indifferent attitude towards poor people.

The Opposition members later grilled the ruling party over the issue of related to granting of approval for appointment of as many as nine guest teachers in JMC school. Levelling senior allegations on Education Officer, Veena Varghese, Vinay Saxena said the Education Officers who have allegedly got appointment on the basis of fake documents are doing irregularities in appointment of guest teachers. He questioned that Incharge Education Department that if she has any information about the appointment. She denied of having any information about the same. Later, after prolonged debate the charge of Education Officer has been taken from Veena Varghese for 15 days, and Deputy Commissioner, Gajendra Singh Nagesh has been asked to conduct thorough inquiry into appointment of nine and other 48 guest teachers and submit the report. Later, proposal related to installation of former Chief Minister Arjun Singh’s statue at park in Civic Centre was approved by the House. However, proposal no. 2 and 3 related to land acquisition for left turn at Damoh Naka and making Jabalpur a Heritage city were dropped. The meeting was adjourned for Wednesday.
