DPC elections: 54 nominations for 25 seats

Scrutiny of papers to be carried out today

A total of 54 nomination papers were filed for elections to 25 seats of District Planning Committee (DPC), till Tuesday, the last day for filing nominations. The mere proportion of nomination papers filed for the number of seats available, indicates that this time the elections to the DPC could be one of the most lacklustre ones.


Of a total 25 members to be elected to DPC, 20 will be from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), four from municipal councils in the district, and one from Nagar Panchayats in the district. The administration received 30 nomination papers from NMC segment, eight from Nagar Panchayats segment, and 16 from municipal councils segment. The nomination papers received till Tuesday will undergo a scrutiny on Wednesday. After that, the interested candidates will be allowed to withdraw from the fray till November 20. The polling, if required, will be held on November 28 between 10 am and 4 pm.


Meanwhile, corporators from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led alliance in NMC filed their nomination papers for all 20 seats available in NMC segment. The category-wise names of these candidates from NMC segment are as follows: General -- Jagadish Gwalbanshi, Chhotu Bhoyar, Harish Dikondwar, Narendra alias Balya Borkar; General (Woman) -- Pragati Patil, Swati Akhatkar, Vishakha Mohod, Snehal Bihare; OBC -- Sanjay Balpande, Sunil Hiranwar, Sheshrao Gotmare; OBC (Woman) -- Pallavi Shamkule, Manisha Dhawade, Vandana Yangatwar; SC -- Dharmpal Meshram and Vijay Chutile; SC (Woman) -- Vandana Bhagat and Niranjana Patil; ST -- Pravin Bhisikar; ST (Woman) -- Yashashri Nandanwar.


Sandip Joshi, Ruling Party Leader in NMC; Pravin Datke, former Mayor; Vicky Kukreja, Sunil Agrawal and others also accompanied the candidates who submitted their nomination papers to Shirish Pande, Sub-Divisional Officer, on Tuesday.


The administration received total eight nominations for one seat reserved for General category from Nagar Panchayats segment. These include Umesh Gabhane, Rajkumar Somnathe, Sandeep Khadsang, Gunwant Chamate, Prithviraj Gujar, Luv Janbandhu, Amit Thaokar, and Archana Harde.


From municipal councils segment, total 16 nominations were filed for four seats. The category-wise names of candidates are as follows: General -- Vijaylaxmi Bhadoriya, Dhanraj Deoke, Manohar Pathak, Yogita Itankar, Kashinath Pradhan, Avinash Zade, Sindhu Dharpal, and Damodhar Dhopte; General (Woman) -- Yogita Itankar and Vijayalaxmi Bhadoriya; SC -- Shyam Mandpe, Varsha Gajbhiye, Naresh Barve, and Neeraj Lonare; OBC (Woman) -- Yogita Itankar and Kalpana Kalambe.
