Staff Reporter,

The Habibganj GRP, on Tuesday, presented all the gang-rape accused in court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Salu Sirohi amidst tight security and took them on police remand till November 9; the four accused had gangraped a 19-year-old girl and had then tried to strangulate her to death under culvert near RPF Chowki and left the crime scene assuming her dead.

Notably, the three accused-Golu alias Bihari (25), Amar alias Gultu (25) and Rajesh alias Chetram (50), were arrested earlier while the fourth was on the run till Monday, when SIT team nabbed him from Salaiya in Kolar area after a cash reward of Rs 10,000 was declared on his head.

The 35-year-old nabbed accused Ramesh Mehra hailed from Narsinghpur district and would work in Bhopal as labourer at under-construction sites and didn’t have any permanent address here. He had lost his wife few years back and didn’t have any child. Since then, he had started shuttling between Bhopal and Narsinghpur.

The prime accused Golu Bihari and Ramesh are in custody of GRP, while the two others are in jail. Police said that, we have got their remand till November 9 and will bring two others tomorrow.

DIG (Crime against Women) Sudheer Laad, when contacted, said that the fourth accused has been arrested and we are likely to dig out more details and evidences soon. In case we feel necessary, we will try to procure further remand of the accused.

We are likely to produce challan in the next fifteen days and are about to conduct the identification parade of the accused from the victim. The gangrape accused are labourers and rag pickers so they keep on changing their hideouts. Labourers keep on changing their living sites with construction sites. This is the problem, which cops had faced and if they are granted bail and in case, they go absconding, it will be difficult for police to bring them to court again. SHO (GRP) Habibganj Hemant Shrivastava said that all the accused are labourers so they live at construction sites and keep on changing their sites.

This is one of the reasons, police is demanding more and more police remand of accused and to collect documental evidence like Aadhaar, Voter ID and others. Strong evidences are being collected against all the accused to make the case strong.
