JMC seizes huge quantity of plastic carry bags from shopkeepers during drive

Health department is conducting drives and seizing plastic carry bags from shopkeepers, vendors. The department is also requesting shopkeepers to shun sale and storage of plastic carry bags

Continue to take strict action against shopkeepers and vendors who use plastic carry bags and not keep dustbins at shops, the Health department of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC), on Tuesday conducted drive in several markets of the city and seized huge quantity of plastic carry bags. Senior officials also prepared challans of shopkeepers, vendors and also realised fine.


Heath Officer, G S Chandel informed senior officials and employees of health department conducted drive in Civic Centre, Bus Stand, Bloom Chowk, Chhoti Line crossing, Madan Mahal, Garha, Medical College, Bajnamath and other adjoining areas and seized plastic carry bags and also realised spot fine from shopkeepers.


Chandel further informed that they conducted inspection at shops and prepared challan of nearly 25 shopkeepers and vendors who were using plastic carry bags and providing commodities to customers in carry bags. The officials also seized more than 2 quintals plastic bags and realised spot fine. They also took action against shopkeepers for not keeping dustbins at shops.


Chandel said following the direction of State Government the JMC has banned manufacturing, sale and use of plastic carry bags within municipal limits. Despite, shopkeepers are selling and using plastic carry bags.


He said that the health department is conducting drives and seizing plastic carry bags from shopkeepers, vendors. The department is also requesting shopkeepers to shun sale and storage of plastic carry bags. He said the State Government has directed civic bodies to ensure proper restriction on use of plastic bags. It has also directed for strict action against businessmen who manufacture and sale plastic carry bags. Therefore, the health department is carrying out drive constantly and taking strict action against shopkeepers who use plastic carry bags.


Amongst the officials present during the drive were Executive Engineer, Bhupendra Singh, Assistant Health Officer, R P Gupta, K K Dubey, Chief Health Inspector, Rajesh Kureel, Polarao, Anil Bari, Trapti Choudhary, Atul Raikwar, Kaluram Solanki, Vishnukant Dubey and others.
