Staff Reporter,

Last year, the Medical Education Department had declared to form Medical Authority in the State. All the medical colleges and hospitals associated with are to be come under it. But now, it seems, the Medical Education Department has put proposal of State Medical Authority on the back-burner. It is not yet confirmed when the Government will introduce it.

The Medical Education Department had raised this issue that it would introduce the Medical Authority. This authority will regulate all medical colleges. Even it will have powers to transfer and posting of the medical teachers, even the medical teachers who are as regular employees will also be under the authority. Medical college teachers had strongly protested against it, saying that if the Government formed medical authority and put their services under it, they will give mass resignation. Later, the Government postponed the idea of forming medical authority. It has given some relief to the medical teachers. The State Government is facing acute shortage of medical teachers and it is to start new 7 Government medical colleges.

A senior officer in Medical Education Department, pleading anonymity, said that now first concern of the department is to have adequate medical teachers to the new medical colleges so that it may be started. It might be one of the reasons why the Government has, at present, postponed its idea of forming Medical Authority. Otherwise, the proposal is ready and is just to be implemented, he said.

Sources said, when the Madhya Pradesh Medical Teachers’ Association leaders had met with Medical Education Minister, other senior officers of the department had given assurances that the Government would reconsider over forming Medical Authority. Proposal is said to be kept under discussion.

When contacted, Shivshekhar Shukla, Commissioner, Medical Education said matter of forming Medical Authority has not yet been brought to his knowledge so he cannot comment anything.
