Fake certificate case: Two more held

Investigators recover 74 seals and signets of senior officials of 24 different government departments from kingpin Nitin Wasnik

AFTER busting a fake certificate racket and putting behind bars the kingpin, 28-year-old Nitin Ishwar Wasnik, police on Wednesday arrested two more persons in this connection.
The accused have been identified as Kiran Laxman Rodge (48), a resident of Jaitala, and Ashish Gopal Khare (20), a resident of Sanjay Nagar.
In connivance with Rodge, Khare and others, Wasnik was operating the racket in the region for the past couple of years.


Crime Branch sleuths on Tuesday arrested Wasnik and recovered 74 seals and signets of senior officials of 24 different departments from his house at Trust Layout in Sanjay Nagar. Cops also recovered fake certificates of senior officials from Revenue Department, Police Department, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, gram panchayats depar, including Deputy Collector, and police officers from his residence.


Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Somnath Waghchawre informed that Wasnik was operating the racket was perparing more than 15 types of fake documents, including driving licenses, Aadhaar card, Election card, school and college leaving certificates, caste certificates, income certificates, affidavits, birth and death certificates, to unauthorised agents and touts. The agents used to collect these fake certificates prepared by him at at a price ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000.


A school dropout, Wasnik is a native of Deolapar inRamtek tehsil and was putting up in a rented accomodation with his sister at Trust Layout.
Crime Branch alerted the office of the District Collector about the recovery of stamps, signets of senior officials, fake certificates, computers, scanner and a machine used to prepare seals worth Rs 72,500 from Wasnik’s residence. So far, seven touts for whom Wasnik was working would be made co-accused in the case.


Fake stamps of duty officers of some police stations, and officials from different departments from Gondia and Wardha districts were also found at Wasnik’s house. An offence under Sections 420, 465, 466, 468, 472, 473 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Wasnik and others at Ambazari Police Station.


The arrest was made by Assistant Commissioner of Police Waghchawre his team comprising PI Sandip Bhosale, APIs Gorakh Kumbhar, Sanjay Chavan, ASI Rajkumar Deshmukh, HC Sunil Choudhari, Afsar Khan Pathan, Rajendra Sengar, Amit Patre, Rahul Ingole, Mangesh Madavi, and Nilesh Wadekar under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Sambhaji Kadam.


Later, Crime Branch officers handed over the probe to Ambazari Police who produced Wasnik before the court and obtained two-day remand for his custodial interrogation.
