NITI Aayog team apprised of KVKs at JNAU

NITI Aayog team visited Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) on Thursday. The team was led by National Labour Economics and Development Institution, Director, Dr M R Prashad, while Assistant Director Dr Vijay Saxena accompanied him during JNAU visit. At JNAU, the team visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jabalpur. Jabalpur KVK Coordinator Dr Dinkar Sharma welcomed the team and apprised about functioning of KVKs as per mandate given by Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR). He added that 640 KVKs are operational across the country.


Advanced and new technology is being disseminated amongst peasants by reaching them at their farm and village. KVKs are directly linked with farmers and farming at ground level and transforming knowledge through proper channel.


Dr M R Prashad informed that the Commission is working on developing system for proper shifting of technology from laboratory to farms. The Commission has constituted a team of experts. The team will gather information on updates from all 640 KVKs and through inspections the Commission is verifying performance given in reports. On basis of performance on different parameters, Jabalpur KVK has been given recognition of A grade amongst ABCD grades. Dr Prashad agreed that in past five years Madhya Pradesh had registered a remarkable growth in agriculture sector.

In the State for agriculture development the agriculture education, land, climate and scientific basis KVKs in Madhya Pradesh are functioning excellent and fall under A and B grades only. He said that in every district of the country a KVK has been established and is operational. He said NITI Aayog is seriously working to develop mechanism for farmers to provide them seeds, fertilisers, water, electricity in adequate quantity and to ensure effective marketing system for crops so that farmers could get adequate price for their crops. Report of NITI Aayog team’s visit will be directly sent to the Prime Minister Office. Earlier, KVK Coordinator Dr Dinkar Sharma presented a detailed report on KVK Jabalpur functioning and works. On the occasion, eminent scientists and staff of KVK were present.
