Business Bureau,

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently assured the local grain and seed merchants that the Government would soon take a call on doing away with the market cess on broken rice. He said this while interacting with a delegation of the Wholesale Grain and Seeds Merchants Association.

Pratap Motwani, Secretary of the association, Dipen Agrawal, President of Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT); Dr Vicky Rughwani, Social Worker, and others have raised the issue of market cess during their meeting with Fadnavis held in Nagpur.

“With the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime in place, the dealers should be relieved of market cess as soon as possible. The cess has alreday been incorporated in the GST and thus its duplication should be avoided,” said Motwani. Motwani also said that the Government allot blocks in the Nagpur Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee to the dealers as soon as possible. Apart from this, the delegation brought to the notice of the Chief Minister other related issues of the dealers.
