Double lifer till death for 4 goons in minor girl’s gang-rape case

SPECIAL Judge (MCOCA) S C Munghate on Wednesday sentenced four goons, including a former murder accused, to double life imprisonment till death for gang raping a minor girl.
Identified as Ganesh Ramdas Satpute (25), Karunanand Ramesh Moon (26), Rohit Sanjay Tambe (25), and Nitin Preetam Berisar (26), the convicts are the residents of T B Ward locality, Imambada.


According to prosecution, the 17-year-old victim, who used to work at the office of a private construction company in Sakkardara, was walking back home around 8.30 pm on May 24, 2015. She met her boyfriend at Krida Chowk. Her boyfriend works at a garage. Both were walking towards Jattarodi.


While crossing through the TB Ward area, Satpute, Moon, Tambe and Berisar accosted the couple. They then started making undue advance towards the girl. When her boyfriend objected to it, three of them carrying sharp-edged weapons thrashed him and dragged him away from her. Satpute, Moon, Tambe and Berisar took her into a nearby jungle. Her boyfriend fled the spot and went to a temple to pray but did not inform the police immediately. Satpute, Moon, Tambe and Berisar disrobed the girl and gangraped her at weapon-point. They also threatened to kill her parents if she narrated the incident to anybody.


The girl, somehow, reached home and narrated her ordeal to her mother. Her mother took her to Imambada Police Station and lodged a complaint.
Imambada Police registered an offence under Sections 376(2),g, 377, 341, 323, 504, 506, 34 of the Indian Police Code (IPC), read with Section 4 and 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 3 of Maharashtra Control of Organised Act (MCOCA) against Satpute, Moon, Tambe and Berisar who were already involved in other serious crimes.


Cops arrested Satpute, Moon, and Tambe on May 25, 2015. Next day, police arrested Berisar.
Assistant Police Inspector B Budhwant, who was the
investigation officer, chargesheeted Satpute, Moon, Tambe and Berisar.


As the charges under Sections 376(d) and Section 8 of the POCSO Act were substantiated against Satpute, Moon, Tambe and Berisar, the court sentenced them for double life imprisonment till death with a fine of Rs 90,000 each. For the offence under Section 506 of the IPC, the court sentenced them to three years’ imprisonment. The court sentenced them to one month imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000 each for the offence under Section 341 of the IPC. For the offence under Section 323 of the IPC, the court sentenced them to six months’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000 each.


However, the court acquitted them of the charges under Section 3 of the MCOCA.
Special Public Prosecutor Adv Vijay Kolhe represented the State. Adv Praful Mohgaonkar, Adv Akash Shende and Adv Nagman Ali were the defence counsels.
