Man arrested for mortgaging artificial jewellery

MP Nagar police have arrested a 38-year-old man who tried to take gold loan from IIFL Bank by mortgaging gold bangles which were found to be duplicates when checked by bank staff on Tuesday. ASP Zone-2 Hitesh Choudhary, addressing mediapersons, said that the arrested accused is identified as Amit Kumar Ahuja, 38, son of Ashok Ahuja, a resident of Housing Board Colony at Vishwakarma Nagar in Nishatpura area. On Tuesday, complainant Aishwarya Sharma (34), a resident of Rishi Vilas at Airport Road, who is presently posted as Manager in MP Nagar branch of India Infoline Ltd (IIFL) which provide gold loan.

In his complaint, Sharma told police that the accused Amit Kumar Ahuja had mortgaged six gold bangles in the bank to get Rs 1.5 lakh loan. However, later when the mortgaged gold bangles were checked by bank staff, all of them were found duplicate after which the matter was reported to manager. Subsequently, manager lodged a police complaint in this regard at MP Nagar police station after which the accused was booked under sections 420 and 511 of the IPC and later he was arrested by the police. The past criminal record of the accused would be further checked to ascertain the details of his involvement in similar such incidents of forgery with banks in the past.
