Target to illuminate 42 lakh houses in MP: Minister Jain

State Energy Minister Paras Chandra Jain while inaugurating Prime Minister Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Scheme at Ashta Tehsil of Sehore district


“MADHYA Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) has set a target to provide power connections to 42 lakh houses in Madhya Pradesh,” informed State Energy Minister Paras Chandra Jain while inaugurating Prime Minister Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Scheme at Ashta Tehsil of Sehore district. While inaugurating the scheme, he said that under Saubhagya Yojana, target to give power connections to 42 lakh homes in a year has been fixed and work in this direction has also been started.


The Energy Minister also persuaded people to avail this facility. He said that under this Scheme started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, houses which do not have power connections will be illuminated by installing LTD bulb, cable and pillars free of cost. The Madhya Pradesh Government is closely monitoring the scheme. Under Saubhagya Yojana, free power connections will be given to 100 per cent identified urban and rural BPL card owners.


On the other hand, such rural families are not included in the scheme according to determined parameters, will be provided power connection by taking merely Rs 500. The facility of paying it in instalments of Rs 50 each in next 10 months’ electricity bills has been provided to such consumers.


Central Region Power Distribution Company Limited (CRPDCL) has provided 78,000 power connections free of cost in the area under its jurisdiction. The company has also provided free power connections to 23,884 consumers in Bhopal region, 55,012 houses in Gwalior region. The company is conducting a survey to provide free electricity connections to all power connection less homes. Central Region Power Distribution Company Limited has started the ambitious scheme to provide power connections to those without power till 2018.
