Special Correspondent,

Negligence of officers of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) has badly hit the works under Chief Minister’s Water Supply Scheme in Nagpur district during last one year. The Government has sanctioned 44 projects under the scheme and surprisingly only four have been completed while remaining 40 did not take off.

This shocking piece of information came to fore during a review meeting chaired by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of district, on Saturday. According to a press release issued by Bawankule’s office, the negligent officers of MJP will have to face stern action as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bawankule have taken the lapses seriously. A meeting with Secretary of the department will be held in this regard on December 17 during winter session of State Legislature.

During the meeting, it came to fore that Ranala-Yerkheda scheme in Kamptee tehsil sanctioned under Chief Minister’s Water Supply Scheme could not be completed in three years! The Guardian Minister expressed his anger over this laxity on part of MJP officials. Stating that he would call a special meeting to discuss issues regarding speedier completion of 12 projects in Nagpur district, in Mumbai, he directed the officials concerned to furnish details of the projects by Monday.

MJP is implementing Mahadula Water Supply Scheme. Mahagenco has agreed to supply 5 lakh litres of water for the citizens, but the villagers are not receiving water. MJP is not collecting water taxes from villagers. Kandri and Nanda Gomkuh schemes also are pending for approval. The citizens of Godhani also are deprived of water supply from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Guardian Minister said, it is the responsibility of the local body to provide water to Godhani citizens. He also issued several directions to officials regarding completion of pending water supply schemes at Mouda, Kamptee town, Bina, and other places.

CM to inaugurate water supply schemes in peri-urban areas

MJP has completed water supply scheme in peri-urban areas and 10 villages outside the city limits will get water from these. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the schemes soon. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Guardian Minister of the district, said that 18,818 families were residing in 10 villages.

A total of 5,657 applications were distributed for water meters and 1,706 families would get water connection. Besa Beltarodi areas also will get water. MJP is constructing two water tanks having storage capacity of 4.46 lakh litres each. The citizens of Ghogali, Pipala, Hudkeshwar, Gonhi Sim, Bahadura, Kharbi, Kapsi Khurd will receive safe drinking water. The Government had spent Rs 232.74 crore on the water supply scheme.

Water Resources Department has reserved 15 MMCube water from Wadgaon project. The 103 kms pipeline will be laid for water supply. Bawankule has directed Nagpur Improvement Trust to provide Rs 19 crore for water supply scheme in Metropolitan Region Area.
