‘Redress grievances of people regarding water supply’

Rajesh Ghodpage, Chairman of Water Works Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), asked the officials concerned to redress the grievances of people regarding water supply.

Addressing a meeting of Water Works Committee on Tuesday, Ghodpage said that he had received several complaints that people were not getting safe and pure drinking water supply. At many places, he said, there were complaints that contaminated water was being supplied.

In response, the officials of Orange City Water (OCW) informed the committee members that Laxmi Nagar zone had received one complaint in this regard, Dharampeth and Mangalwari -- eight each, Hanuman Nagar -- two, Nehru Nagar -- four, Gandhibag and Lakadganj -- three each, and Satranjipura and Ashi Nagar zones had received five complaints each. After taking stock of the situation, Ghodpage asked them to redress the grievances within two months.

Road works were in progress in some areas, and in some others repair of pipeline was going on. As a result, people were receiving contaminated water supply. Ghodpage asked the officials concerned to personally visit such spots and take necessary steps to resolve the issues. He also took stock of recovery of low pressure supply, recovery of water charges etc.

Mahendra Dhanvijay, Vice-Chairman of the committee; Rupali Thakur, member; Sanjay Gaikwad, Executive Engineer (Water Works); P S Rajgir, General Manager; D P Tipnis; M P Singh, Rahul Kulkarni, Aziz Rehman of OCW and others were present in the meeting.
