MNS leader badly injured in the attack, hospitalised

Ongoing spat between Achalpur MLA Bacchu Kadu and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists took an ugly turn with Kadu supporters launching a murderous assault on MNS Amravati City President Santosh Badre Patil on Tuesday evening in posh Dhantoli area creating flutter in political circle.

The MNS leader was attacked and abducted by activists of Prahaar Sanghatna, an outfit controlled by Achalpur MLA (independent) Bachhu Kadu, from Lokmat Square in full public view on Tuesday evening. The accused bundled the MNS leader in a Bolero SUV and tried to take him to an unidentified spot. But prompt action on part of city police averted the further untoward incident. The cops managed to accost the vehicle near Rahate Colony Square and the profusely bleeding and grievously injured MNS leader was rescued from the clutches of Kadu supporters. The police have arrested an abductor from the spot, however four of them managed to flee. The incident is fall out of threatening call made by the MNS leader to MLA Kadu, said police.

According to police, the incident took place at 6.45 pm when MNS leader Santosh Badre Patil (40), a resident of Amba Gate, Amravati along with MNS activist Dipak Vaidya (35), a resident of Sai Nagar and one Ritesh Sharma, a resident of Nagpur were standing near Tea kiosk on Dr Balraj Marg, near Neuron Hospital in Dhantoli. A Bolero vehicle (MH-30/AF-4727) stopped near the Tea kiosk and five persons disembarked from the vehicle after spotting Santosh Badre. They ran towards Badre and caught hold of him and one of them started hurling punches on his face. Later, the quartet beat Badre black and blue. Taken aback by this audacious attack, Vaidya attempted to rescue Badre, but the accused overpowered him.

Later, the accused bundled Badre in the Bolero vehicle and sped away from the spot. Alert citizens immediately dialed Police emergency number 100 and informed about the shocking incident. The Control Room immediately alerted beat marshals and traffic police about the abduction and directed to stop black coloured Bolero SUV vehicle. After noticing the Bolero vehicle they stopped it on Rahate Colony Square, the traffic cops moved towards the vehicle to nab the accused. Sensing trouble, the accused opened gates of the vehicle and just ran from the vehicle leaving injured Badre in the vehicle.

The traffic cops chased the accused and arrested one who was later identified as Tushar Fundkar (32), a resident of Sai Nagar, Amravati. Staff of Dhantoli Police Station rushed to the spot and seized the Bolero vehicle. Injured Santosh Badre was admitted to Neuron hospital and his condition is reportedly stable.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Crime Somnath Waghchoure visited the spot and informed The Hitavada that the incident was fall out of the threat call made by Badre to MLA Kadu. The accused had planned the abduction to teach a lesson to the MNS leader, said ACP Waghchoure.
This entire episode itself is fall-out of a press conference addressed by Kadu at Thane in which he criticised MNS Supremo Raj Thackeray and had supported the hawkers, after which local MNS activists gave a toungue lashing to him. Some MNS activists also threatened Kadu with dire consequences and an audio clip of Badre-Patil also went viral.

Pawan Dadwi, Vice-president of MNS, Amravati said that Santosh Badre was in city to see wife of Vaidya at Neuron Hospital.

When contacted MLA Bachchu Kadu said that the activists had gone to settle the issue as the MNS leader was sending threats to him. However, the MNS leader again hurled abuses during the discussion after which the Prahaar activists lost their cool and attacked him, claimed Kadu.
