Diesel scam rocks BMC General Council meeting

Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s General Council meeting was rocked by Diesel Scam on Tuesday. Congress corporators alleged that, diesel theft from central workshop is still continuing and demanded high level probe into the case. BMC Chairman, Surjeet Singh Chouhan asked BMC Commissioner to table the necessary report in connection with case in next meeting.

It was Congress Corporator Mubarika Kamruddin Daoedi, who raised the question related to central workshop diesel scam and sought to know that what action has been taken against accused. During the discussion, other Congress Corporators like Girish Sharma also joined and leveled certain charges. MIC Member Mahesh Makwana tried to satisfy the Congress Corporators by saying that in connection with 2016 diesel theft case, three officers including in charge diesel, Madhusudhan have been suspended. Some drivers have been also removed and department enquiry is underway and in future, decision would be taken on the basis of circumstances. He was candid to accept that BMC has no mechanical engineer and recently recruitments have been done in which mechanical engineers have also come.

Mohammad Sageer alleged that action has been taken against small employees and big fishes have been left out. He claimed that even today, diesel theft is continuing. One of the Congress Corporators told that in the name of maintenance and repair vehicles are stranded and this is adversely affecting the water tanker supply and thus corporators are facing the ire of public. Congress corporators demanded fair probe in fixed time limit.

After this, Congress Corporators trooped to the well demanding discussion on utmost important public interest issue.

Later, replying to the public interest motion, Mayor Alok Sharma said that information of completion certificates issued by building permission branch to various projects and builders will be amassed from 2015 to 2017 and all completion certificates issued during this period will probed in fair manner within ten days and action will be taken against guilty.

He also told that wood of 300 trees cut down for laying third railway line have been deposited in the storage of BMC.
Meanwhile, forest department has been asked to deposit the wood of remaining 529 trees and do the verification.
Moreover, Mayor Alok Sharma said that to increase the income of Bhopal Municipal Corporation, special meeting of General Council will be organised and views and suggestions will be sought from all the corporators.

Before this, permission was given by BMC General Council meeting to various proposals including proposal related to construction of Bharat Mata temple premises at Singarcholi (Manubhan ki tekri). Likewise, permission was also granted for financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to corporator of ward 74, Leela Kishan Mali. Silence of two minute was also observed to pay homage to legendary actor Shashi Kapoor, who passed away on Monday.
Tribute was also paid to mother of corporator Sanjay Gupta, Krishna Gupta.
