Proposal given to HRD to make sports compulsory subject in schools: Rathore

Union Minister of State for Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that a proposal has been given to Human Resources Development Ministry (HRD) that sports should be included as compulsory subject in schools. He told this thing while addressing the press conference at TT Nagar Stadium of State capital on Tuesday. Talking about the proposal, he told that at least there should be five periods of sports in a week.


He also emphasised that parents should also play pro active role in this regard by giving half hour or an hour to their children. If this happens then sports scenario of entire country will get changed. Apart from this, he told that under Khelo India programme, facilities to sports persons would be expanded. His ministry will also do talent hunt programme before the summer vacation of next year to search the talented players. Speaking about the preparations being made for Rio Olympics 2020, he said all kind of facilities are being provided to players and even if they wants to go abroad then they will be sent.

He also informed that a law is being brought so that jobs could be fixed for players and if any department fails to fill the fixed vacancies then they will be carried forward. This will help in great manner in fixing jobs to players.

As of now, no department is interested in recruiting the players and tells that no players have come for the job. Someone will come when there is publicity of job. Hence stress has been paid to ensure fixation of jobs to players so that real players get the jobs.He also informed that bank of coaches is being prepared. Emphasising that efforts are underway to revive the ‘Guru Shishya Parampara’, he told that such a system is being developed that players have to mention the name of their coaches at the entry level and if they win the award then the incentive to coaches will reach in certain ratio.

This will help in better remuneration for coaches. He said Khelo India will relish the success in India and will become a bench mark at national level for players unlike Rio Olympic. The player can feel proud that he had played till Khelo India level. Saying that a data base will be prepared of players and coaches, he told that Schools can also take pride as schools name will also come in the medal tally. He added that now sports are taking the centre stage in country and hoped that country will be youth’s country not only on paper but also on ground reality.

Moreover, he informed that Sports Authority of India (SAI) size will be reduced and its entire structure will be changed. By 2022-23, Sports Authority of India’s strength will be 50 per cent. The emphasize is to take coaches to such a level that they becomes part of decision making process. Likewise, efficient officers of SAI will be promoted. He was all praise for the sports facilities developed in Madhya Pradesh and told that they are far better than other states
