Mohammad Akbar claimed that the State government had totally failed to stop ‘dalali’ of paddy in the last 14 years

Taking a dig at the State government, Congress has demanded Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into all scams and irregularities committed in the last 14 years in the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection.

Talking to mediapersons at Congress Bhavan here on Wednesday, former Minister and senior Congress leader Mohammad Akbar alleged that over Rs 11,000 crore paddy scam took place in 14 years in the state.

Irregularities are being reported from all levels like purchase of paddy, transportation of paddy, custom milling and storage of rice at godowns of the FCI.
There is a nexus between the officers and leaders of the ruling party in the state. So no action is being taken by the State government against corrupt officers guilty in paddy scams committed at Kunkuri, Balodabazaar, Bhatapara and other places of the state, he said.

“The State government agencies are not capable to inquire about these scams. So a CBI inquiry should be conducted into these scams,” the Congress leader added. Citing former Chhattisgarh BJP In-charge and present Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan’s statement-“BJP leaders should not do dalali of paddy”, Mohammad Akbar claimed that the State government had totally failed to stop ‘dalali’ of paddy in the last 14 years.

Commenting over the statement of Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Punnulal Mohile, who highlighted the achievements of his department, the Congress leader alleged that corruption is at peak in the State.

Akbar further claimed that Global Positioning System (GPS) had not been installed in vehicles engaged in transportation of paddy and rice to trace the locations even after assurance of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh to install GPS in all the vehicles.

Former CPCC President Dhanendra Sahu said that the State government had issued an order, in which it has been mentioned that farmers should not take out water through pumps for irrigation of Rabi crops. In the order, it has been said that if the farmers use water for paddy crop in Rabi season, their hand pumps would be seized and electric connections will be snapped, he further added that if farmers are prevented from using water for paddy crop in Rabi season, then industries should also be banned to use water in summer,” Sahu asserted.
