‘2020 Olympics is our ultimate goal’

Commonwealth gold medalists Wrestler Babita Kumari and Archer Deepika Kumari were in Raipur to flag off the Marathon organised by Indian Institute of Management
2014 Commonwealth Games Wrestling gold medalist Babita Kumari and 2010 Commonwealth Games Archery gold medalist Deepika Kumari said they are trying their level best for 2020 Tokyo Olympics. “We know it does not look that easy to win a medal in Olympics which, we could say, is ultimate goal of any sportsperson. Even as Olympics is going to be a tough task, still we are preparing for the same,” said Babita and Deepika while talking to media on the sideline of a Marathon organised by Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur at Telibandha here on Sunday.
Talking more on the Olympics and its preparations, they said the country need more academies and coaches. “Every state should have adequate infrastructures and coaches to groom the talents.,” said Deepika and Babita while indicating towards insufficient infrastructures and coaching facilities for the training of sportspersons.
Deepika said that an archer should start his/her career in the game, which has immense
potential in India, at the age of 7-8 years which is the ideal age to start with.
When asked about women in sports in the country, Deepika, currently ranked World No. 5 and former No. 1, said they said that the governments need to do more for them as far as their safety and providing them with employment are concerned.
Speaking about Bollywood biopic ‘Dangal’, Babita said that the Amir Khan-starrer movie has depicted their real life story.
