Farmer Ashok Chandrakar awarded for excellent work in vegetable productivity

Ashok Chandrakar, a farmer located in Durg district, has brought glory to the State as he was awarded at National Farmers Fair and Vegetable Showcasing programme that was organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research- Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Chandrakar was awarded for his excellent work in vegetable productivity. Together with his father Sukhlal Chandrakar, Ashok was employed under a large scale farmer thirty five years ago.


While the father used to work on fields, the son used to take care of children. But, today Ashok has given employment to 400 people and he is counted among major farmers in the country and he grows vegetable on 700 acres.
The vegetable he grows is supplied to major cities like Delhi and Hyderabad also. He availed guidance of Dr Dhananjay Sharma, Scientist, Department of Vegetable Science, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV). He owed his success to IGKV Vice-Chancellor Dr SK Patil, Director, Research, Dr JS Urkurkar and entire IGKV collective.
