‘Women empowerment can happen only when there is no gender difference’

HUNDREDS of women gathered together to celebrate ‘International Women’s Day organised by Nagpur Mahila Club and Aashrita Mahila Club on Saturday afternoon, at the banquet hall, Hotel Hardeo.
The club invited talented women from different fields who achieved success after a big struggle. A well known academician, Annapoorni Shastri, also Director of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, was invited as the chief guest.


Through her speech, Shastri spread a beautiful message for the women’s present that will help everybody to create a safe environment for coming generation. She said “When we talk about Sanskar, its not only for girls or women. Every mother should take care to give proper ‘Sanskar’ to her son, too. At a certain age, she should tell him how and when to respect a girl or a woman. The day, a mother inculcate good habits and grooms her son with good values, the majority of the environment will turn safe for a woman,” said Annapoorna Shastri, while addressing hundreds of women. Shastri was welcomed with shawl and shreefal by the President of the Club, Vilasini Nair.


Focusing on gender difference, she said, “Women empowerment can happen only when there is a fair environment for both the genders. Luckily, I belonged to a family where neither my parents followed the gender discrimination, nor do I did among my children.”
Supporting the same thought and appreciating the women’s on the dias and off the dias, Nair, spread the message about how the word ‘Unity’ is important between women. She informed about the struggle of Nagpur Mahila Club since it was brought into existence in 2001.


Shastri felicitated Kavita Rajesh Chandak for health care and medical services, Mamta Chinchwadkar for Community Service and Social Upliftment, Radhika Mehra for Teaching and Teacher Education, Srimathy Shyam Madkholkar for Performing Arts, Vaishali Telang for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Bharti Disawal for the Most Active member of the year 2015-2016. Shobha Bhagya and Dr Punita Tiwari were felicitated for successfully organising club projects.


Dr Premlata Tiwari, Vice President conducted the programme beautifully including few poetic lines and shloks in Hindi on IWD. Anita Bose, Secretary, presented a club report and informed about different charity programmes conducted by the club. One Madhuri Raulkar recited ghazals on women while Anuja Saoji sung songs in her melodious voice. Jaya Shenoy proposed a vote of thanks.
