Collector gets his vehicle checked at PUC centre, obtains certificate

Setting an example for common public, Raipur District Collector O P Chaudhary on Tuesday got his official vehicle checked at a PUC (Pollution Under Control) checking centre in the city and got a PUC certificate issued as well. A special camp was organised at the collectorate where 405 vehicles, including two wheelers, had undergone PUC checking.
It needs to be mentioned, a drive was carried out in the district to ensure reduction in contribution to the pollution made by the vehicles. As per the decision, PUC checking and obtaining a certificate was mandatory for the owners of four-wheelers and two-wheelers to protect themselves from any kind of legal action which will start from March 15.
In order to inspire the public, the district collector got his vehicle checked at the PUC centre for a certificate. As per provisions of Motor Vehicle Act, penalty will be imposed on owners not possessing PUC certificate. There is provision of fine from Rs 200 to Rs 2000 according to the categories of the vehicles and level of pollution. Under the directives of the district collector, around 50 PUC checking centres were set up in the district.
To get his/her vehicle checked, a owner will have to pay Rs 40 for two-wheelers, Rs 60 for three-wheelers, Rs 80 for light four-wheelers, Rs 100 for medium weight vehicles and Rs 150 for heavy vehicles.
