5th Asian School Hockey C’ship in Bhopal from April 3

As many as 192 players along with sports officers belonging to eight countries will participate in the championship. The teams of the countries including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, UAE, Bangladesh, China and host country India will participate in the event

Fifth Asian School Hockey Championship will be organised in State capital from April 3 to 12. Children under 18 years will participate in the championship. School Education Department has started preparations for the arrangements of championship.


As many as 192 players along with sports officers belonging to eight countries will participate in the championship. The teams of the countries including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, UAE, Bangladesh, China and host country India will participate in the event. A central committee and different committees for co-ordination with other departments have been constituted for organising the championship. School Education Department has made proper arrangements so that maximum children could enjoy the matches to be held during championship. Championship will be inaugurated at TT Nagar Stadium, New Market on April 3.


Cultural programmes based on Indian culture of unity in diversity will be held on the occasion and all day-night matches will be organised at Aishbagh Stadium from April 4. As many as 26 matches will be played in all and concluding ceremony will be held on April 11 at Aishbagh Stadium.
An 18 member team of host country has been selected for the Asian School Hockey Championship as the camp for section was organised at Major Dhyanchand Stadium, Tulsi Nagar on March 8 to 9. Sourabh Pasine, Mohammed Alishan and Shaqib-ur-Rehman have been selected from Madhya Pradesh. A camp for practice will also be organised at Major Dhyanchand Stadium from March 18 to 31.


League cum knockout system will be used in the competition and the 8 teams have been classified into two pools. Malaysia, Sri Lanka, China, UAE will be in pool ‘A’ and Bangladesh, India, Singapore and Thailand will be in pool ‘B’. The teams which will secure first two positions will participate in semi-final match.
