Admission under RTE: Computerised lottery to open today

Thousands of parents belonging to underprivileged category of the society were eagerly awaiting Computerised Lottery introduced by the district education office, Raipur, to ensure transparency in the admission to 25 per cent seats in private schools under the Rights of Children Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act. The lottery will decide the fate of thousands of beneficiary students on Thursday, as per the decision taken by the district Collector O P Chaudhary on Wednesday in a meeting. DEO Ashok Narayan Banjara was also present in the meeting apart from Directors/Principals of private school of the district.
The district collector asked the private schools to be honest in disclosing the number of seats available with them in their respective schools before the lottery is opened. If anyone found guilty of hiding any information regarding the seats will be punished severely, said the district collector. It is to be mentioned, admission under the RTE for the academic year 2017-18 will be held in April. As many as 822 private schools in the district are registered under the RTE which will take admissions against 9574 seats available these schools. During the data collection, number of seats in a few schools was increased. The schools are Shivom Convent, KPS, Sacred Heart, Adarsh Vidyalaya, Vicon School, Mintu School Poddar School, DIsha School, Deshbandhu School, Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Sachdeva, Davda International, Holy Hearts, RKC, Gujarati, Ryan International etc. As on Wednesday, 8940 applications under RTE were received. The computerized lottery will made public on Thursday at 1 pm.
