Saraswati Prasad, Soma Mondal visit SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant

Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor (AS & FA) in Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India, Saraswati Prasad, IAS and Director (Commercial) SAIL, Soma Mondal arrived on their maiden visit to SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant on saturday. Prasad and Mondal were welcomed at Raipur airport by CEO, Bhilai Steel Plant, M Ravi and other senior officers of the Plant.
Soon after her arrival at Bhilai Niwas, Mondal visited the Plant’s JLN Hospital & Research Centre where she inaugurated Anaesthesia Work Station in the OT Complex. She also visited JLN Hospital’s Cath Lab, ICU and Renal Unit and interacted with senior doctors, specialists and administrators of JLN Hospital at a presentation session in the Conference Hall.
Mondal then visited Siyan Sadan run by Bhilai Steel Plant for senior citizens. During her visit, Mondal warmly interacted with residents of the old age home. She then visited Akshaya Patra in Sector 6 where she was shown the modern kitchen facilities from where mid-day meals are supplied daily to children studying in Government schools. BSP supports Akshaya Patra in this noble mission.
AS & FA in Ministry of Steel, Saraswati Prasad, IAS who arrived later in Bhilai Niwas went straightaway to Ispat Bhavan where an overview presentation on performance of Bhilai Steel Plant was made before both Prasad and Mondal at CEO’s Conference Hall. The presentation was followed by interaction with M Ravi, CEO, BSP, Executive Directors and General Managers of the Plant who were present. In their remarks during the interaction, both Prasad and Mondal expressed that Bhilai Steel Plant was indeed the pride of SAIL.
Following the presentation, Prasad and Mondal visited the recently inaugurated Universal Rail Mill where they witnessed and took keen interest in rolling and processing of the world’s longest 130 metre long rails. M Ravi, CEO, RS Chaturvedi, ED (Projects), Hriday Mohan, ED (MM), TB Singh, ED (Works) and other senior officers of the Plant and Projects Dept accompanied Prasad and Mondal.
Later, Prasad and Mondal visited various units of the Plant including Blast Furnace 7, Steel Melting Shop 2, Plate Mill, Steel Melting Shop 1, Blooming & Billet Mill, Rail & Structural Mill, Long Rail Complex, Merchant Mill and Wire Rod Mill. They were accompanied by M Ravi, CEO, Executive Directors and senior officers of the Plant. Both Prasad and Mondal evinced keen interest in the entire steel making and rolling process. Saraswati Prasad who accompanied the dignitaries also witnessed steel making process.
Later, Saraswati Prasad formally inaugurated the rolling process of SAIL-Bhilai’s Bar & Rod Mill, an important project that is part of Bhilai Steel Plant’s 7 MT MODEX programme. Also present at the inauguration was Mondal, M Ravi, CEO, BSP, Executive Directors and senior officers of the Plant and Projects Department. Prasad congratulated the BSP Team for crossing this important milestone in its Modex programme.
The new and modern Bar & Rod Mill in Bhilai that would enable rolling out of new products including Bright bar, Cold heading, Spring Steel, Free Cutting Steel in wire rod sections and also TMT Bars in straight length, climate resistant quality angles and channels and Climate Resistant and Low alloy Heavy Structural Steel. The entire range of product grades from the new Mill would enable SAIL to meet the emerging needs of different grades of structural steel for the nation’s ambitious infrastructure development programme. Later in the evening, Prasad and Mondal visited Nehru Art Gallery where they viewed paintings of Abhilasha Singh put up on display in an exhibition.
