Various events to mark 41st Foundation Day of IGRMS

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya(IGRMS) under the celebrations of its 41st Foundation Day is organising various programmes and activities at its premises from March 21 to23. Sangrahalya in continuation of four decade long tradition will celebrate foundation Day with various programmes with a state as theme.
This year Meghalaya is the theme state. On the eve of Foundation Day, country’s largest lamp with 1001 wicks ‘Aal-Vilakku’ will be lighted. The chief guest of inaugural ceremony will be Manoj Shrivastava, IAS, Principal Secretary. On this occasion the Annual IGRMS Lifetime Achievement Award will be given. 21st to 23rd March traditional artists from Meghalaya will give performing arts presentation and it is worth mentioning that on 23rd March world famous band from Shillong – ‘Summersalt’ will give special performance.
The three days long celebration will be marked by special exhibitions, annual lecture, craft fair, ethnic cuisine, and cultural performances of Meghalaya.
Meghalaya recipes share the exotic taste of Meghalayan food. Meghalaya has unique cuisine which is different from other
seven States of North Eastern India.
The people of Meghalaya have their own indigenous way of cooking according to the availability of food staffs.
Slow heating, firing, boiling, pounding, baking inside hollow bamboo tube, steaming, wrapping in banana leaves are some of the traditional ways of cooking. Jadoh Pumaloi (steamed rice), Pukhlein, Pudoh Milliem Chicken, Smoked Fish, Nakham Bitchi and Tungtap (Fish chutney) are some of the famous food items of Meghalaya.
