Yogi Adityanath to be UP Chief Minister

ENDING the suspense after a day-long ‘political reality show,’ firebrand BJP Gorakhpur MP Mahant Yogi Adityanath has been elected as the Leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature party and thus, will be the 32nd Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
The name was announced after a consensus approval by all 312 BJP and 13 of the alliance partners MLAs at the Lok Bhawan, here on Saturday evening.


The proposal on the name of Yogi was proposed by senior most BJP MLA Suresh Kumar Khanna and seconded by 11 other legislators. Later, the entire House supported the proposal with slogan of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and ‘Desh me Modi, Pradesh me Yogi.’


Yogi becomes the fourth CM of UP from the upper caste Thakur community and the first Hindu saint to assume the post. On the demand of the new CM, two deputy CMs have been approved by the Legislature Party. The two deputy CMs are UP BJP President Keshav Prasad Maurya and Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma.


Informing about the decisions of the Legislature Party, Central observer and Union Minister Venkhiah Naidu told reporters here that the decision of the leader was approved by the Parliamentary board, though during the meeting, he had asked if the legislator had any other name in their mind.


Claiming that the new BJP Government will run on the agenda of development and good governance, Naidu said the UP polls have shown the doors to the political parties doing caste and religion vote politics in the State.
He said they would be meeting Governor Ram Naik, to stake claim to form the Government and the oath ceremony will take place on Sunday 1415 hrs.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President Amit Shah, along with several other Union Ministers and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled States would be present. Yogi known for pursuing aggressive Hindutva politics is also the founder of Hindu Yuva Vahini, a youth organisation of eastern UP. Venkiah Naidu too asked the MLAs to cooperate the new CM and its team.


As the meeting was underway inside the Lok Bhawan, thousands of supporters from Gorakhpur and other districts had gathered here in large numbers. The supporters of Yogi rent the air with the slogan “Desh Mein Modi, Pradesh Mein Yogi” and “Pradesh bimar hai Yogi jaroori hai”. The central BJP leadership had deputed three observers Union minister Venkiah Naidu, BJP general secretary Bhupendra Yadav and State in charge of the party and vice president Om Mathur. The leaders of the two allies of the BJP Apna Dal (Sonelal) president and Union minister of state Anupriya Patel and Suheldeo Bhartiya Samaj Party president Om Prakash Rajbhar MLA were also present in the meeting. Earlier in the day Yogi was summoned to Delhi where he met the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

Adityanath on Saturday said that he would follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ slogan and exuded confidence that the state would march on the path of development. “I am thankful to Governor Ram Naik who invited me to form government in UP,” he said in his first brief media interaction at Raj Bhawan. Adityanath said he would follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan “sab ka saath, sab ka vikas” (With all and development of all) and ensure all round development of the state. “I am confident that the state will march on the path of development,” he said. The Yogi said his efforts would be to provide “good governance” in the state.He thanked party MLAs for reposing faith in him.
