Crime Branch sleuths bust gang of mobile phone thieves

CRIME BRANCH sleuths busted the gang of mobile phone thieves and rounded up three along with recovery of as many as 24 stolen mobile phones from their possession in Bhilai. The police cell handed over the gang members to the police station concerned for further legal action in the matter.
Police sources informed that the accused were identified as Manish Singh (20) and Atul Kumar Goutam (26), both residents of LIG Quarters, Housing Board, Jamul and Rajkumar alias Sonu (23), a resident of Camp I, Bhilai. The police said that after a tip off Crime Branch teams swung into action and succeeded in laying hands on the accused at different places in Bhilai simultaneously. During interrogation in the police custody the accused trio confessed to their involvement in stealing mobile phones by pick-pocketing and on their instances the police cell teams also recovered about 24 ill-gotten mobile phones from their possession.
The police also said that when arrested the accused were looking for customers at ACC Chowk, Chhaoni Chowk and Tiranga Chowk in Bhilai for disposing off the stolen mobile phones to procure money. While elaborating on the modus operandi of the gang, the police said that the gang members used to target liquor joints, market areas and other overcrowded locations in the city to set their prey and relieved several people of their expensive mobile phones. The police have registered the offence against the accused under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and are investigating the matter.
