17 women accused of damaging liquor shop site granted bail

Seventeen women including social activist Mamta Sharma, who were on Wednesday night arrested by the police on charges of creating ruckus in an under construction liquor shop site at Potiya Ward (Nandini), were on Thursday granted bail by the Court. All the accused were brought to the District Court amidst tight police security in the noon hours of Thursday. Later, all the accused were granted bail on a surety bond of Rs 7,000 each.
Sources informed that the residents of Nandini were protesting shifting of a liquor shop at Potiya Ward since few weeks and on Wednesday social activist Mamta Sharma too joined their agitation. The protestors allegedly created ruckus in the under construction site of the liquor shop following which an offence against them was registered. Meanwhile in the late evening hours of Wednesday, 17 arrested accused were brought to the Mahila Thana where a doctor from District Hospital had conducted medical verification of social activist Mamta Sharma after she had accused the cops of brutally assaulting her.
Meanwhile, at around 13:30 hrs on Thursday, all the 17 accused were taken to the District Court from Mahila Thana. They were soon produced in the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mohan Singh Korram from where they were granted bail. Talking to mediapersons, Mamta alleged that one sided actions were initiated against her claiming that it was an open violation of human rights.
