UNDER Health Department, the Foods and Drugs Administration (FDA), is facing acute shortage of Foods and Safety Officers (FSOs) in State, Government is said to have decided to create awareness of milk analyser among the people. Collecting samples and testing milk and number of milk products at its Central laboratory in city and Indore. Its testing gets more time due to shortage of laboratory staff. It might be the reason why FDA mulling over public awareness drive as milk analyser is handy, portable and not more costly. The cost of milk analyser machine is said to be within Rs 1000. FDA officers suppose it as affordable prize for the people.
According to the sources, results of this portable milk analyser is the same as of the FDA’s Central lab test reports. If there is any doubt, anyone can do testing of milk and milk products at home through milk analyser and send its report to the FDA and then FDA will take action against the traders selling adulterate food items, milk or milk products.
A senior officer in FDA said, the machine is very handy and is available in market, anyone can purchase. However, most people do not know about it, so FDA will create awareness about it, so that people may know it and be alert about adulterated food items sold in market.
There is series of user friendly, rapid analyser can be applied for measurement of fat, Solids Non-Fat (SNF), density, proteins, lactose, salts, water content percentages, temperature (C), freezing point, pH, conductivity, as well as total solids of one and the same sample directly after milking, collecting and during processing; Somatic Cell Counters for detection of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis; thermostatic devices for different kind of tests; high-sensitive adulteration test strips for detection of neutralisers, hydrogen peroxide and urea adulteration in raw milk, that work in a very efficient and reliable way all over the world.
An FDA officer said, even a year ago, when there were complaints about adulteration in mawa, milk and paneer and some other milk products, the FSOs had used these portable milk analysers for testing. Action was taken against the milk traders on post test report basis. Its results were good.
