Inter-state gang of smugglers busted, four men arrested

IN A major breakthrough, a combined police team of District Forest and Crime Branch busted an inter-state gang of smugglers and seized a major consignment of 45.4 kilograms of ganja from the four accused. The consignment was being delivered from Odisha in a Bolero jeep for retail selling in Jabalpur. Detaining four members of inter-state gang of narcotics trade will disclose several important information about network of narcotics trade to put-up a vigilant check on drug mafia in the region.


The accused have been identified as Rakesh Jain (27), son of Hukumchand Jain, resident of Nohta in Damoh district, Prashant Ahirwar (22), son of Damodar Ahirwar, resident of Nohta, Damoh, Santosh Yadav (22), son of Mulayam Yadav and Govind Thakur (22), son of Ranjit Singh Thakur, residents of Nohta in Damoh district.
Superintendent of Police Dr Mahendra Singh Sikarwar disclosed this while addressing a press conference on Saturday. He informed that during a special campaign against illegal trade and transportation of narcotic substances, police received information about some people involved in illegal trade of narcotic substances transporting a major consignment from Odisha in a Bolero jeep.


Acting promptly on the information, a combined team of Barela police and Jabalpur Crime Branch under supervision of CSP, Cantt, M P Prajapati and SHO of Barela police station comprised Amit Patel, Rajesh Pandey, Ajay Baghel, Prem Vishwakarma, Rajesh Sharma and Raja Babu started a search. Police team stopped a suspected Bolero jeep (MP-04BA-9087) for checking.


During checking, police team seized 45.4 kg of ganja and succeeded in apprehending four men travelling in the jeep. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they work under direction of Rakesh Jain and were transporting the consignment from Sonpur in Odisha to Damoh. The packets of ganja were hidden in bonnet, footrest and vacant spaces of the vehicle.


The accused were apprehended under direction of SP Dr Mahendra Singh Sikarwar under supervision of Additional SP (Crime), Devendra Pratap Singh Rajput, Additional SP (North), Sanjeev Uikay by police team led by CSP, MP Prajapati, SHO, H R Pandey, SI, R P Mishra, Sameer Khan, Vijay Barange, Shivram Patel, Kapur Singh, Ramkumar Singh, Ravishankar Shukla, Chandika Badwar, Gajendra Dangi, Brijendra Lokhande, Amit Patel, Rajesh Pandey, Rajesh Sharma, Prem Vishwakarma, Raja Babu and Ajay Baghel. On the achievement, SP Dr M S Sikarwar has declared cash reward of Rs 5,000 for members of police team.
