CCB, Kotwali Police crack theft case of mobile shop

Central Crime Branch (CCB) and Kotwali police cracked the theft case of mobile shop which took place on February 14. Two persons belonging to inter-state gang were arrested and 10 costly mobile phones were seized from them.
While addressing media persons Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjiv Shukla informed that after the incident CCB team started investigation on the basis of CCTV footage of the spot. On classification of the video footage recovered from the spot at Malviya road and the modus operandi police received clues that the thieves were in group and they left city by train towards Ghodasan in Motihari Bihar. Police team and CCB staffs started investigation and on the basis of classification of data available with them they reached the accused. Two persons identified as Mohammed Hasan Alam (24) and Kunal Kumar Shah both residents of Ghodasahan of Motihari District in Bihar were arrested and police recovered the ten stolen smart phones of htc brand from their possession. Dr Shukla further informed that about nine persons of the gang were involved in the theft out of which two persons have been arrested so far. He stated that as per the footage received from the spot the gang members first covered the shutter with curtains for few seconds and other members cut the locks using a cutting device after which the other gang members escaped from the place. After some time few gang members entered the shop with torch light in hand and selected the mobile phones as per their requirement.
During interrogation the accused informed, they use code words and the stolen mobiles were supplied to Nepal at half the price of the mobile hand sets. Police team is still working in the case and other members have been identified. Soon they are expected to be under the police net. It may be recalled that over 251 costly mobile phones worth over Rs 55 lakh were stolen from the shop Dhanwantari Electronics which is located at walking distance of City Kotwali police station. The unknown thieves cut opened the locks of the shutter and entered the shop in the night. The thieves who were assumed to be more than one stole the new and costly mobiles of brand htc, Samsung, Apple, Sony, Black Berry, Asus, Oppo and other brands. Ironically the thieves did not touch the Black Berry phone which were newly launched and were more costly than whose stolen. The thieves also stolen cash Rs 1.25 lakh that was kept in the cash counter in the show room. The boxes of mobile phones were dumped by the thieves inside the showroom. The CCTV footage recording machine known as DVR was also stolen by the thieves.
