Major jolt to Gwalbansi gang; around 300 illegal houses demolished

In a major jolt to land grabber Gwalbansi gang, joint team of Nagpur Police and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) demolished around 300 illegally constructed houses in Shivkrishnadham Nagar on Koradi Road on Tuesday.
The day-long operation was conducted in the presence of more than 500 police personnel including two squads of Riot Control Police (RCP) and Quick Response Team (QRT). The NIT used
20 JCBs and around 50 trucks for the six hour long anti-encroachment operation.
A senior officer informed that the entire operation was very silently finalised by the police and NIT officials. “Massive police force along with striking force was used during the operation,” the officer said.
After reaching the Shivkrishnadham Nagar slums on Koradi Road, the special teams of the city police barricaded the area including Koradi road. Some police officials along with NIT officers made announcement of anti-encroachment drive and asked the residents to vacate the area immediately. The operation was started at around 11 am and was completed within six hours. BJP Corporator Jagdish Gwalbansi and Chairman of Labour Welfare Board Munna Yadav were seen at the spot. Gwalbansi along with his supporters attempted to protest at the spot but no official gave importance to him.
Sources informed that Gwalbansi and his accomplices had sold the plots to many poor families for Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 in last 15 years. “All residents are from lower income groups and maximum are working as daily wage workers,” source said. The residents were seen crying and collecting households helplessly as they lost their house.
It may be mentioned that land of Shivkrishnadham Nagar is the disputed land and Gwalbansi gang sold the land plots to many in last 15 years. The land dispute went to the court and the court ordered removal of the illegal structures.
The top brass of city police have deputed two Deputy Commissioners of Police including DCP Zone III Rahul Maknikar and DCP Zone V Krishnakumar Upadhyay to supervise the action.
