Dharmendra Singh snares four
SKIPPER Mandar Mahalle led from the front as Nagpur Cricket Academy (NCA) set a target of 238 for Reshimbag Gymkhana in their Under-19 inter-academy cricket tournament final at Kalamna ground on Wednesday.
The 60-overs-a-side event is being organised by Vidarbha Cricket Association.
After being put into bat, NCA lost opener Aman Dehankar for nought at team score of seven. He was caught by Reshimbag captain Aditya Khilote on the bowling of Prasad Manekar. Mahalle (89; 91b, 10x4, 2x6) then joined Yash Thorat (19; 28b, 2x4, 1x6) and the duo took the score to 33 when the latter became first of the four victims of speedster Dharmendra Singh.
Pushpak Gujar played an entertaining innings of 30 from 32 balls hitting six fours and was the dominant partner in the third wicket stand of 44. Vivek Bongale (32; 38b, 3x4) and Balkrishna Chauhan (20; 57b, 4x4) also contributed to the total. With tail exposed, Mahalle used the long handle and was finally the last man out in 56.4 overs.
With four for 49 from 10.4 overs, Dharmendra was the most successful Reshimbag bowler. He was well assisted by his new ball partner Manekar (2-42) and Kalpesh Rajput (2-28). Nachiket Bhute and Aniket Rokde chipped in with a wicket apiece.
When play resumes on Thursday, Reshimbag will need 238 to be crowned champions while NCA would hope that their bowlers win it for them.
