DRI arrests man, seizes 1.5 kg gold at Nagpur Rly Station

In similar action at Mumbai, a team of DRI arrested three persons and seized 3.5 kg gold worth Rs 1.05 crore from their possession
In a major exercise, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur Regional Unit arrested one person for his alleged involvement in the smuggling of 1.5 kg gold worth Rs 45 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, the DRI intercepted one person at Nagpur Railway Station on May 8, at 11.30 pm. The person was travelling on Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express. The DRI recovered 2 pieces of gold bars weighing 1.5 kg collectively, from his possession, a senior officer of the DRI said.
Simultaneously, DRI, Mumbai Zonal Office rounded up three more persons in Mumbai and arrested them for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of 3.5 kg gold worth approximately Rs 1.05 crore. The trio was possessing four pieces of gold bars weighing 3.5 kg collectively. The DRI seized a total 5 kg gold valued at Rs 1.50 core.
All the four persons were members of a gold smuggling syndicate who were operating in Dubai. The person caught at Nagpur had boarded Etihad Airlines flight from Abu Dhabi to Kolkatta. All the four members took different routes to reach their final destination at Mumbai, a senior DRI officer said.
Investigations are underway. It has been revealed that the person caught in Nagpur was later released on conditional bail. DRI officer revealed that the instances of smuggling gold were on the rise in Nagpur. For this, DRI Nagpur was keeping close vigilance at airport and railway station.
