Sports psychologist Bam no more

RENOWNED sports psychologist and former IGP Bhishmraj Bam (85) passed away on Friday evening at Nashik due to cardiac arrest. The veteran sports organiser and Shiv Chhatrapati award winner had gone to deliver a lecture near his residence. Suddenly he felt uneasy and  was admitted to a nearby hospital. Bam passed away during treatment.

Bam was a renowned sports psychologist of the country who guided the likes of former India captain Rahul Dravid, shooter Anjali Bhagwat, Abhinav Bindra, Jaspal Rana, Suma Shiroor, Geet Sethi, Gopichand and other big names.

Hailing from Hyderabad, Bam had shifted to Nashik after retiring from police service. He was a recipient of Jeevan Gaurav award, President’s Medal and Special Police Medal.

Bam authored three books in Marathi viz. ‘Marg Yashacha’, ‘Mana Sajjana’ and ‘Vijayache Manasshaastra’. Another of his book ‘Vijayachya chaanglya savai’ was translated into four languages.

Bam was a guiding light for coaches, trainers and young players. He held over 2000 lectures on sports psychology.

He leaves behind wife Sudha, sons Narendra, Abhijit and a big family. Last rites will be held on Saturday at 11.30 am, his relatives told this newspaper.
