POSSIBILITY of prolonged power cuts looms large in BSP Township following heavy rains and storms with advent of Monsoon. The sources said that the possibility of prolonged power cuts could not be ruled with advent of rainy season in the township as the proposals for pruning of trees remained pending for the last couple of years while the tender flashed recently was quashed and the department concerned already opted for re-tendering for pruning of trees in close vicinity of power supply lines.
According to sources, the proposals for pruning of trees in close vicinity of overhead conductors in the Steel City remained pending in want of approval for over two years as outcome of apathy on the part of higher management. However, this year Township Electrical Engineering Department of BSP again moved the proposal for pruning of trees with the budget of over Rs 8 lakhs and it was approved but owing to terms and condition and for other reasons the tender got quashed and the department concerned has already opted for re-tendering. The process of re-tendering and awarding contracts could take about three months and possibility of power cuts owing to overgrown branches of trees is continued to persist in the township in the forthcoming rainy season.
At several locations in BSP Township including Street-16, Street-20 and Street-22 in Sector-2 and the township areas by Garage Road along with Sector-6, there are overgrown branches of trees by overhead power supply lines and possibility of breaking of overhead conductors is prevailing in these locations leading to long power cuts following the heavy rains and storm. Besides, the prolonged power cuts could also lead to mishaps with sparking of overhead conductors during rains.
Public Relation Department, BSP officials declined to comment over the issue.
